"In May, 2012, Dr. Maureen Jackson, a good friend, associated with the University of Washington, contacted me to see if I would be interested in giving three lectures at Carleton College, a Liberal Arts college in Northfield, Minnesota; one, on ‘The Usage of Ladino in Sephardic Liturgy’ another on the beginnings of the Seattle Sephardic Community, and a third on my father’s early life in Turkey. They had a large group of Jewish students there, and Maureen felt that they would enjoy, and possibly be intrigued by, my lectures.
Dr. Jackson took care of all the arrangements; the flights, the round trip transportation to and from Carleton and Minneapolis, sleeping arrangements, kosher food, etc. Elisa also accompanied me on the trip. We met another Jewish lecturer from Spain by the name of Esther Bendahan. Elisa and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the lectures appeared to be well received."
