There has been an overwhelming interest in and comment on the Confronting Hate Together (CHT) exhibit. It's inspiring to see how it has sparked passions and opportunities for deeper engagement. We have heard many individuals expressing everything from strong support and curiosity to more extreme commentary that only strengthens our resolve. With a commitment to the initial goals of the CHT exhibit and mindfulness of the complexities, we are exploring alternative venues that can host larger volumes of visitors and enable more interaction during facilitated conversations. This new venue will allow us to address concerns around public safety. We expect the exhibit to open later this summer and will announce the new venue soon.

After deep consideration and reflection, the Black Heritage Society of Washington State, the Washington State Jewish Historical Society, and the Wing Luke Museum have, in solidarity, agreed to proceed with the Confronting Hate Together exhibit. We will relaunch the exhibit with the goal of June 30, 2024 to make additions to the content by offering additional framing on its genesis, the initial public reaction, and the history of our communities working together. -

On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, community members gathered at the Wing Luke Museum to celebrate the launch of the new exhibit, Confronting Hate Together. This exhibit is a groundbreaking multi-community project between the Black Heritage Society of Washington State (BHS), Washington State Jewish Historical Society (WSJHS), and the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience (WLM).Despite the temporary closure of the museum right after the opening, the exhibit remains crucial in educating about anti-Jewish, anti-Black, and anti-Asian hate. We fully support the re-opening of the Wing Luke Museum and encourage you to explore the exhibit online or visit in person next week.

It is so important for cultural institutions to support one another in good times and bad. We proudly stand in solidarity with the Wing Luke Museum and look forward to strengthening our partnership through collaborative programs and projects such as the Seattle Asian Jewish Community Initiative and the "Confronting Hate In Seattle" exhibit along with the Black Heritage Society. -
The Washington State Jewish Historical Society stands in solidarity with Israel. We are horrified by the surprise attack carried out by terrorist group Hamas, which has resulted in mass murder, rape, kidnapping, and other crimes against humanity directed at Jewish and Israeli people, with many others caught in the crossfire. History has taught us that silence toward acts of violence such as this is detrimental to global peace. We must loudly and intentionally speak out against these acts in order to cultivate a better world. We grieve the loss of life, wish for quick recoveries for the injured, and for the safe return of the missing.
